Search Rankings & AI Visibility

If ChatGPT doesn't mention your brand, you're losing customers you'll never know about. There's no “click” to track, no referrer to parse. Traditional analytics are blind to this entirely new category of dark traffic. BetterMeter monitors your visibility across both traditional search engines and AI platforms, so you can see what your users are actually being told about you.

Why brand monitoring matters in the AI era

A growing number of people get product recommendations, service comparisons, and buying advice from AI assistants instead of traditional search. When someone asks ChatGPT “What's the best analytics tool for my SaaS?” and your brand isn't in the answer, you've lost a potential customer, and you have absolutely no way of knowing it happened.

Unlike a Google search where you can at least see impression data in Search Console, AI conversations are completely opaque. There's no click, no impression metric, no referrer header. If ChatGPT doesn't mention you or describes your product inaccurately, the only signal is silence: revenue that never materializes, leads that never arrive.

This is the new dark traffic. And it's growing fast. Research suggests that AI-assisted search is cannibalizing traditional search queries at an accelerating rate. Brands that don't monitor their AI visibility today will wake up in twelve months wondering why organic traffic declined despite stable rankings. BetterMeter gives you the visibility layer that traditional SEO tools are missing.

How it works

BetterMeter uses search APIs and AI platform queries to check how your brand appears across major search engines and AI assistants for your target keywords. It queries each platform with the same set of prompts and search terms, then analyzes the responses to determine where and how your brand is mentioned.

The result is a comprehensive visibility report showing your Google search rankings alongside AI mention data. You can see which queries trigger mentions of your brand, how competitors compare on the same queries, and whether Google AI Overviews are citing your content or sending users elsewhere. Reports can be generated on demand or scheduled to run automatically, giving you a continuous pulse on your brand's presence across every discovery channel that matters.

What you get

  • 01 AI Visibility Index.A single score that summarizes your brand's visibility across AI platforms. See at a glance whether AI assistants are recommending you, ignoring you, or misrepresenting you.
  • 02 Query coverage.A breakdown of which search queries mention your brand versus competitors. Identify gaps where competitors appear and you don't, and opportunities where you can improve positioning.
  • 03 AI Overview detection. Monitors whether Google AI Overviews cite your content for your target queries. When Google generates an AI summary at the top of search results, is your site the source, or is a competitor?
  • 04 Competitor comparison.Side-by-side visibility data across your entire keyword set. See who's winning the AI recommendation battle for each query and track market share shifts over time.
  • 05 Trend tracking. Historical charts showing how your AI visibility changes week over week. Correlate visibility changes with content updates, product launches, or competitor moves.

AI Visibility Index explained

The AI Visibility Index is a composite score from 0 to 100 that quantifies how prominently your brand appears across AI platforms for your tracked queries. A score of 100 means every AI platform mentions your brand positively for every query. A score of 0 means complete invisibility.

The index is calculated by weighting three factors: mention frequency (how often you appear), mention quality (whether the description is accurate and favorable), and position prominence(whether you're mentioned first, last, or in passing). Each AI platform is weighted by its estimated market share, so a mention in ChatGPT carries more weight than a mention in a smaller platform.

For marketing teams, the AI Visibility Index provides a single number to track in executive reports and board decks. Instead of explaining the nuances of AI search to stakeholders, you can say “Our AI Visibility Index improved from 34 to 51 this quarter,” and everyone understands the direction. It's the metric that bridges the gap between SEO teams who understand the technical landscape and executives who need clear signals.
