BetterMeter vs Fathom Analytics

The simplest cookie-free analytics: fixed price, unlimited sites and seats.

Fathom is the fastest privacy analytics tool to get value from. One script, one screen, unlimited sites and unlimited team members on every plan, and data kept forever. There is very little to learn and almost nothing to configure.

That restraint is the product, and it is also the trade. Fathom deliberately does not go deep, so questions past 'which pages got traffic and where did it come from' are out of scope by design.

BetterMeter is the opposite bet: more surface area, more to learn. Four event sources, crawler-level reporting, and ad-spend-to-CRM attribution. If Fathom already answers your questions, that extra surface is cost with no benefit.

Where Fathom Analytics wins

Reasons to choose them instead

  • Unlimited sites and unlimited team seats on every plan, where BetterMeter caps both by tier.
  • Data retained forever on every plan; BetterMeter's Free tier keeps 30 days.
  • Less to learn. If the whole question is website traffic, Fathom is the shorter path.
Where BetterMeter wins

What they do not measure

  • A free tier for 10,000 events a month covering web analytics and AI referrals; Fathom has no free plan at all.
  • CLI, MCP and API traffic measured natively rather than not at all.
  • Crawler reporting instead of crawler filtering.
  • Ad spend joined to CRM deals, and every report reachable from a CLI or an MCP tool.

Which one should you use?

Pick Fathom if you run many sites, want one predictable bill, and your question stops at web traffic. Pick BetterMeter if you need crawler detail, developer-tool telemetry, or attribution that reaches your CRM, and can accept per-tier site and seat limits to get them.

Questions people actually ask

Does Fathom detect AI traffic?
Fathom added AI referrer detection in 2025, so visits arriving from assistants are labelled as such. Like Plausible, it does not report on AI crawlers: which bots requested which pages is not part of the product.
Is BetterMeter cheaper than Fathom?
It depends entirely on volume and site count. BetterMeter has a free tier at 10,000 events a month, which Fathom has no equivalent of, and paid plans start lower. Fathom includes unlimited sites and seats at every price point, so above a handful of sites Fathom is usually the cheaper bill. Count your sites and your monthly events before assuming either way.
