How BetterMeter differs
Most analytics tools measure one thing well: a website. BetterMeter measures websites, CLI tools, MCP servers and APIs through one pipeline, and treats AI traffic as two questions rather than one — which assistants send you visitors, and which crawlers read your pages.
Every page below states where the other product wins, because for a lot of readers it will. BetterMeter has no self-hosted edition, no EU region, and no heatmaps or session replay. If one of those decides it for you, the comparison should say so on the way in rather than after you have signed up.
BetterMeter vs Plausible Analytics
The privacy benchmark: simple, cookie-free, EU-hosted, open source.
They win on: You can self-host it. BetterMeter has no self-hosted edition, and for a lot of privacy-led buyers that is the whole argument.
ComparisonBetterMeter vs Google Analytics 4
The free default, wired into Google Ads and BigQuery.
They win on: It is free at any volume, and BetterMeter is not.
ComparisonBetterMeter vs Fathom Analytics
The simplest cookie-free analytics: fixed price, unlimited sites and seats.
They win on: Unlimited sites and unlimited team seats on every plan, where BetterMeter caps both by tier.
ComparisonBetterMeter vs Umami
The most popular open-source analytics: MIT, self-hostable, generous free cloud.
They win on: Self-hosting under an MIT licence, at no cost and with no vendor at all. BetterMeter has no answer to this.
ComparisonBetterMeter vs PostHog
All-in-one product analytics for engineers: replay, flags, experiments, LLM tracing.
They win on: Session replay, feature flags, experiments and surveys. BetterMeter has none of these and is not building them.
ComparisonBetterMeter vs Matomo
The full classic analytics suite, self-hosted first, with 20 years behind it.
They win on: Heatmaps, session recording, A/B testing and a tag manager. BetterMeter has none of them.

See it on your own traffic
A comparison table only gets you so far. Install the script tag, give it a day, and look at what your own AI referrals and crawlers actually did.
